UK: ARTICLE 19 welcomes Supreme Court ruling on memoir
In a robust defence of freedom of expression, a Supreme Court judgment overturned an injunction preventing publication of the musician James Rhodes' memoir 'Instrumental'. ARTICLE 19 has long argued that injunctions to prevent publication are inherently dangerous for freedom of expression and democracy, and must be recognised as prior-censorship which can only be justified in exceptional circumstances. Brazil: Death of journalist must be investigated
Blogger and journalist, Evany José Metzker, disappeared on 14 May. He was found beheaded a few days later, and his body appeared to have been subjected to extreme violence. We call on authorities to rigorously investigate the case, paying special attention to whether the crime took place due to the journalistic investigations that Metzker was carrying out. Read more >
