Seventy years ago, the Soviet Union crushed Nazism in Europe. Millions died in the struggle. Today, the civilized world joined together in Moscow in celebrating the victory over fascist pathocracy. The leaders of the West did not attend. The reason is simple. Nazism may have been defeated in Germany, but it has lived on ever since in the United States, and it has made a recent resurgence in Ukraine. To attend such a celebration would be an unthinkable violation of fascistic, psychopathic Western values.

So with that said, here's a run-down of some of the highlights from the parade. First of all, the parade itself:

It seems that some post-communist countries of Eastern and Central Europe are drifting into Russia's orbit, a one US expert pointed out, desperately trying to find out what "has gone wrong" in that part of the world.

Once Washington's steadfast allies, some European countries are now "at risk" of drifting into the Kremlin's fold, Dalibor Rohac, a Research Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington DC, emphasized.

"At the time, these [Eastern and Central European] countries were counted amongst the most staunchly pro-American members of NATO—and also among the boldest economic reformers on the continent, cutting their taxes and privatizing social security systems. Today, the situation could not be more different," the analyst stressed.

Comment: Is it any surprise that countries are becoming aware that these tax policies and privatization schemes are ruinous to their economies, and in watching what Putin has done to successfully manage the Russian economy despite sanctions, they would prefer to reside in his sphere of influence, rather than bevassals of the Empire of Chaos?

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman and Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary have been recently boosting their ties with Moscow, Dalibor Rohac noted deprecatingly.

Western "colonial" states are not interested in S. Africa's development, but rather want to take its natural resources and never give anything back, Jacob Zuma, S. African president, told RT. It's China's investment that Zuma sees as a way to prosperity.

"The Western world or the European countries, in particular, came to Africa [in the 19th century] to colonize and they had been taking the resources of Africa," Zuma said.

But even after the continent decolonized itself in the mid-20th century, its relationship with the US, UK, France and other Western countries "remained the same," he stressed.

Ukraine is using a ceasefire in Donbas to strengthen its defense capacities and rearm troops, President Petro Poroshenko said on a trip to an army training center in the country's north-central Chernihiv region on Monday.

"Ukraine's victory is gained not only at the front line, but in the rear where professionals are making weapons for the Ukrainian army round-the-clock, practically in three shifts," the president said.

He said Kiev had beefed up its units with Stugna antitank missile systems on several most important directions. "We took an opportunity of this period of temporary inactivity," he said.

According to the president, the Ukrainian Ukroboronprom concern is on the list of ten top world arms exporters, but is facing a more ambitious task of hitting the list of top five.
Comment: It seems Poroshenko has no plans of honoring the Minsk agreements.

Japan's future could be in jeopardy following an announcement in late April that Tokyo and Washington intend to deepen military ties by revising their guidelines, underpinning the US-Japanese defense alliance.

This warning was voiced by an unnamed high-ranking officer of the People's Liberation Army during a meeting with a group of senior Japanese politicians, a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Japan Times.

"Japan will have no future if it only follows the United States," a source quoted the PLA officer, working at the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS), as saying.

moroccan_jet_houthi_video_si.jpg

Yemen's Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for downing Moroccan F16 fighter that Saudi-led coalition earlier declared missing. A Houthi TV channel broadcast a video that Iran-allied fighters said showed the wreckage of an F-16 plane.

"The air defence of the tribes shot down a warplane over Wadi Nushur, in Saada," Houthi news channel Al Maseera said. The channel broadcasted pictures showing local tribesmen celebrating a victory near the F-16 wreckage.

The Iran-backed Shia group claimed the Moroccan jet was downed by a surface-to-air missile in Wadi Nashour area in the northwestern province of Saada, a Houthi stronghold near the border with Saudi Arabia, while conducting airstrikes Sunday.
Comment: If the Houthi rebels' claim is true, then Saudi Arabia has its hands full in this war.

Al Arabiya reports:
Saudi Arabia has announced that a "strike force has arrived on the border with Yemen, as the operation to quell Houthi militias in the country continues."

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz said Sunday that the Saudi-led air war was launched to foil a plot by a "sectarian group" to undermine security in the region.

The Saudi monarch was defending the military operation Riyadh has led against Yemeni militia since March 26, in an address read to clerics on his behalf by an adviser in the Muslim holy city of Makkah.

Meanwhile, Yemen's deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh Monday declared his support for Houthi militias after raids from the Saudi-led coalition on his house in Sanaa.

"I was not an ally of Ansar Allah [the Houthis ] but today I am announcing from this place that Yemenis will be supportive of anyone who defends the nation's resources," the deposed leader said.

US Secretary of State John Kerry is planning a trip to Sochi on Tuesday, where he is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The three men are to discuss the situation in Ukraine, Yemen, Iraq and Syria.

The trip has been confirmed by Russian and US officials.

"This trip is part of our ongoing effort to maintain direct lines of communication with senior Russian officials and to ensure US views are clearly conveyed," State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said in a written statement.
Comment: The meeting may be just that, a "symbolic" gesture.

At first, a few progressive heads-of-state in Europe were appalled at U.S. President Barack Obama's pressure for them to reject Russia's invitation to an upcoming 9 May 2015 celebration of victory against Hitler, and Czech President Milos Zeman even came out publicly saying, in a conspicuous face-slap to Obama, on 3 January 2015, that theU.S. overthrow of Ukraine's democratically elected President Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014 had been a coup and that "only poorly informed people" were comparing that to Czechoslovakia's own "Velvet Revolution" against communism on 29 December 1989. Zeman even said that Ukraine's 22 February 2014 U.S. overthrow of Yanukovych, or the event (under the cover of public demonstrations at the) "Maidan, was not a democratic revolution" but instead a coup. Or, as the head of Stratfor, the private CIA firm, has acknowledged, it was even "the most blatant coup in history," because it was so well doumented in videos taken by bystanders at the time, as well as by internal intelligence leaks (such as this and this). So: indeed, "only poorly informed people" didn't know about it. (And some still don't.)
Comment: From Fort Russ we get this scathingly incisive assessment of the boycott:
The promoters of this boycott and the ones responsible for it not only err in the most elementary courtesy by not returning the favor to Vladimir Putin, for attending the commemoration of the Normandy landings last June, where he crossed paths for the first time with his Ukrainian counterpart Poroshenko. They not only err at the foremost principle of diplomacy, as General DeGaulle professed it, to put reality in front of feelings, and states in front of friendships; their insult to Russia constitutes first off, an outrage to history, practically a denial of history. Is the present to erase the past, as with Big Brother in Orwell? Should politics be trumping the truth?

Mssrs Obama, Hollande, Cameron and other western leaders -- whose names, if not already forgotten, soon will be -- are too quick to hold cheap the frightening tribute of the twenty million lost that Russia and Stalin payed for the common cause at the time of world war.
Below is RT's coverage of the D-Day commemoration last year in France. Notice that Putin uses the opportunity to forward diplomatic discussion and resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Barry smiles a lot.

China's military plans to produce nearly 42,000 land-based and sea-based unmanned weapons and sensor platforms as part of its continuing, large-scale military buildup, the Pentagon's annual report on the People's Liberation Army (PLA) disclosed Friday.

China currently operates several armed and unarmed drone aircraft and is developing long-range range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for both intelligence gathering and bombing attacks.

"The acquisition and development of longer-range UAVs will increase China's ability to conduct long-range reconnaissance and strike operations," the report said.

I am sitting in front of my computer and watch the movie The Burn, by Arkadii Mamontov, about the May 2nd Odessa massacre. The movie is very well made and I hope that somebody will subtitle it in English. It shows a lot of video footage of various events, which all took place last year. Scenes include the intercepted telephone calls of local Ukronazi leaders, the smiling faces of the young Ukrainian girls preparing Molotov cocktails, the applause from the crowd, with the Ukronazi lynch mob approaching the square where the anti-Maidan demonstrators had their tents. Two things in particular amaze me: the absolute burning hatred of the Ukronazis for the "separy" or "colorady" (the anti-Maidan Ukrainians) and the fact they are all speaking in Russian! Not a single word is uttered by these Russia-haters, in their beloved Ukrainian language.

And I ask myself - are these Russians or not?

I suppose that it depends on your definition of Russians. For me, a Russian is any person who loves, and cares for Russia. It is not an ethnicity or a language, but a "civilizational realm", just like there are Indian or Chinese civilizational realms. By those criterions, these Ukronazis are not Russians.

In that logic, history is literally irrelevant.

Let's imagine an imaginary people who lived for 5000 years on an island with no contact with the outside world. And yet, one day, some of them, for whatever reason, decide to declare that they are a totally different nation, with nothing in common with the rest of the islanders. They invent themselves a language, a history and some ersatz of a culture. It is all utter nonsense, of course, and any historical investigation will reveal this fraud. But even if all their founding myths completely contradict the historical record, even if their language is completely artificial and invented, and even if their entire claim to a separate identity is based on nothing, nothing at all, there is one thing which cannot be impugned, one thing which is undeniably real: their seething hatred for their own people, culture and history. That hatred by itself does not need to be based on anything, it can appear ex nihiloand no amount of logical demonstrations will weaken it.

Washington is losing its weight in the international arena and this makes it target Russia and Venezuela, as well as attempt to curtail China's growth, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro told RT's Spanish-language channel in an exclusive interview.

In March, the US declared Venezuela a threat to its national security which is usually the first step in starting a US sanctions program. Maduro said the country found great support in Latin America after this attack, which forced Washington to backpedal on its pressure.

"All those countries stood against it even before the Summit of Americas started exactly a month ago and demanded that [US President] Barack Obama repeal the executive order that declared Venezuela a threat. It was very convincing," he said. "President Obama realized that Venezuela was not alone, that it would have help and support. We were united in our multiplicity."

The Venezuelan president, who continued a policy of opposing the influence of the US in Latin America that his predecessor Hugo Chavez started, believes that Washington is unnerved by the growth of political and economic power in countries it does not control.

"The US see they are losing influence and it makes them target countries like Russia to find a way to stop them. The US creates barriers and problems for such countries. They try to hamper their natural development. So they continue their attacks on peaceful countries like Venezuela and oppose the development of powerful nations like China," he said.
Comment: Wise words from Mr. Maduro. He seems to be taking the same measured but unflinching resistance to the Empire, copying Putin's model of coalition-building among the nations of Latin America.

Metro suspended service on several lines between Foggy Bottom in Washington and Rosslyn in northern Virginia for about three hours after a report of smoke.

The delays caused major disruptions Monday morning for commuters on the orange, blue and silver lines and trains were still running on just one track in the afternoon.

Metro blames an insulator along the third rail that may have been giving off smoke and says repairs have been made in the area. Metro apologized to commuters on its website, saying it was aware that many experienced long, crowded trips.

Fire department spokesman Timothy Wilson says smoke dissipated while firefighters were at the Foggy Bottom station. Lt. Sarah Marchegiani with the Arlington County Fire Department says firefighters at the Rosslyn station only found an odor.

At least four people have been killed in a military plane crash near Seville airport in Spain.

The plane, a new Airbus A400M, reportedly developed a fault just after take-off on a test flight.

Local media say that those on board were Spanish Airbus employees. Two have also been seriously injured.

Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has expressed his sorrow over the incident which took place about 1.6km (1 mile) away from San Pablo airport.

Local media say that the plane had signalled that there was a fault with its systems just before the crash.

The plane reportedly hit an electric power line as the pilots tried to make an emergency landing.

Only a year after the joint drills of the Richland County Sheriff's Department and the US military raised eyebrows, the RCSD has once again announced that the department will be conducting drills that involve the joint training of civilian law enforcement and the US military.

On May 8, it was reported by WLTX that the Richland County Sheriff's Department will be conducting drills in conjunction with the 3rd Special Forces Group out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The exercises will take place at late-night and pre-dawn and will run from May 8 until May 15.

Citizens have now been informed that Sheriff's Department and Military vehicles will be traveling in the Lower Richland County community near Eastover and Hopkins as well as Elgin near Screaming Eagle Road. The vehicles will also be traveling in the North Richland County area near Monticello Rd.

An American family flying with United Airlines from Houston to Portland were forced off the plane after an emergency landing because the pilot wasn't "comfortable" with an autistic child on board. The shocked family is filing a lawsuit.

The emergency stop was made in Salt Lake City, KOIN 6 News reported citing Donna Beegle, who was traveling with her autistic 15-year-old daughter Juliette Forbes.

The incident unfolded after Donna realized that her daughter had not eaten dinner yet. "She started getting a little upset and I started thinking, 'You know what? She didn't eat her dinner," the mother said. "I know her, when she gets over hungry or over thirsty, she really struggles because she can't tell us and she gets really frustrated."

Could a quiescent sun portend a new little ice age: a chilly era for humanity and agriculture?

Screen_Shot_2015_05_10_at_8_16.jpg

President Obama, Al Gore and other alarmists continue to prophesy manmade global warming crises, brought on by our "unsustainable" reliance on fossil fuels. Modelers like Mike Mann and Gavin Schmidt conjure up illusory crisis "scenarios" based on the assumption that carbon dioxide emissions now drive climate change. A trillion-dollar Climate Crisis industry self-servingly echoes their claims.

But what if these merchants of fear are wrong? What if the sun refuses to cooperate with the alarmists?

"The sun is almost completely blank," meteorologist Paul Dorian notes. Virtually no sunspots darken the blinding yellow orb. "The main driver of all weather and climate ... has gone quiet again during what is likely to be the weakest sunspot cycle in more than a century. Not since February 1906 has there been a solar cycle with fewer sunspots."

"Going back to 1755, there have been only a few solar cycles that have had a lower number of sunspots during their maximum phase," Dorian continues. This continued downward trend in solar sunspot cycles began over 20 years ago, when Earth stopped warming. If it continues for a couple more cycles, Earth could be entering another "grand minimum," an extended period of low solar activity.

That would mean less incoming solar radiation, which could have a marked cooling effect - as happened during previous decades-long episodes of low solar activity. The "Maunder Minimum" lasted 70 years (1645-1715), the "Dalton Minimum" 40 years (1790-1830); they brought even colder global temperatures to the "Little Ice Age."

Solar activity is in free fall, Reading University (UK) space physicist Mike Lockwood confirms, perhaps "faster than at any time in the last 9,300 years." He raised the likelihood of another grand minimum to 25% (from 10% three years previously). However, he claims a new little ice age is unlikely.
Comment: That would be nice, but it's not going to happen. This is what the elites do to societies and communities, this is what they do when there is a crisis pending.

How beliefs about what makes us happy have changed in the last 80 years.

Eighty years ago the top three things people thought were most important for happiness were security, knowledge and religion.

By 2014 only security was still in the top three, and the other two spots had changed to good humour and leisure.

Meanwhile religion had dropped to tenth, and last place.

The results come from two surveys carried out almost 80 years apart.

For both surveys people in Bolton, England replied to an advert asking them to answer the question "What is happiness?"
Comment: Things certainly were different in 1938. It looks as though there are a lot of people who are about to become pretty unhappy.

Indian_Point_Nuclear_Power_Pla.jpg

All nuclear power plants are inherently unsafe - aging, poorly maintained ones most of all.

Entergy Corporation's Indian Point nuclear plant is located 38 miles north of New York City. It was commissioned in 1974. It experienced numerous incidents warranting concern - the latest on May 9.

A transformer exploded. Fire and black smoke were visible. The plant's Unit 3 was shut down after the incident. Officials claimed no threat to public safety.

Whether true or not, who knows. When incidents like this happen, the public is systematically lied to.

Nuclear experts cite Indian Point's notorious history of unaddressed health hazards, safety violations, numerous accidents and pollution - issues persisting throughout its operating life.

Waste water emitted from its facilities killed millions of Hudson River fish and other aquatic life forms.

High levels of cancer occur in communities close to all nuclear power plants - notably in the case of Indian Point.

Documented evidence shows infant mortality rates drop significantly in communities near shuttered nuclear plants.

Volcanoes are considered chaotic systems. They are difficult to model because the geophysical and chemical parameters in volcanic eruptions exhibit high levels of uncertainty. Now, Dmitri V. Alexandrov and colleagues from the Ural Federal University in Ekaterinburg, in the Russian Federation, have further extended an eruption model—previously developed by other scientists—to the friction force at work between the volcanic plug and volcanic conduit surface. The results, published in EPJ B, provide evidence thatvolcanic activity can be induced by external noises that would not otherwise have been predicted by the model.

Companies are taking out a huge amount of patents related to reading brainwaves, according to analysis, with a range of different applications.

Fewer than 400 neuro-technology related patents were filed between 2000-2009. But in 2010 alone that reached 800, and last year 1,600 were filed, according to research company SharpBrains.

The patents are for a range of uses, not just for the healthcare technology that might be expected. The company with the most patents is market research firm Nielsen, which has 100. Microsoft also has 89 related patents.

This is Supernova SN 1987A, one of the brightest stellar explosions since the invention of the telescope more than 400 years ago.

Supernova 1987A exploded in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a nearby galaxy about 168,000 light-years away. The light from the supernova arrived here in 1987. Dominating the image are three glowing loops of stellar material, formed when the fast expanding supernova collided with the dense, slower moving material in the stellar wind.

This stellar wind was ejected by the former star about 20,000 years before it went supernova. These collisions cause intense heating and the production of powerful optical and X-ray energy emissions.

Outer, ejected materials lit up first, followed by the innermost materials powered by radioactive isotopes, such as cobalt-56, which decayed into iron-56.

There are still many mysteries surrounding these structures, and their origin remains largely unknown. Another mystery is that of the missing neutron star at the heart of the supernova.

The star that exploded to create SN1987A was a blue supergiant known as Sanduleak -69° 202. Blue supergiants can have surface temperatures of over 50,000°C, and can be a million times as luminous as the Sun.

The violent death of a high-mass star, such as SN 1987A, leaves behind a stellar remnant in the form of either a neutron star or a stellar mass black hole.

However astronomers have been unable to find a neutron star in the remnants of SN1987A, possibly because it's surrounded by an extremely dense cloud of thick dust. It's also possible that so much material fell back onto the neutron star that it further collapsed into a stellar mass black hole.

lung_transplant_organ_care2_si.jpg

A new technique is enabling a patient's lung to keep breathing for up to a day outside their body. Doctors are hailing it as a success that could see the number of transplants in a year double and allow them to save hundreds more lives.

Until now, donor organs have had to be placed in a refrigerated box and stored in ice to keep them working as new as they were being ferried to and from hospitals. But that only allowed the organ to live for six hours.

The machine at London's Royal Brompton and Harefield hospital can stretch this to 24 hours.

The Organ Care System, or OSC, not just stores the organ, but keeps it in the same condition as it exists in the body. It consists of a sealed plastic box, a pump that feeds blood to the organ and a device to inflate and deflate the lung.

The technology could also improve the lung's condition, the developers say. That in itself increases the likelihood of the lung's suitability for a patient; it should be noted that, at present, only about 20 percent of donor lungs are good.

A dead blue whale has washed up on the southwest part of Hunt's Island.

Too often, scenes of dead whales are seen around shores. This whale, believed by locals to be a giant blue whale, has died and will soon begin to decay on the southwest part of Hunt's Island.

The temperature in Burgeo is still fairly cold and it is not composing fast, there is a lot of meat and blubber to decompose there.

It is more than a mile from town so the smell hasn't had any effect. After the gulls have picked holes in it, it is speculated it will sink because the holes will release the air.

Times have changed since the days of Farley Mowat and Moby Joe, people look at a dead whale now sadly, they love to see those huge beautiful mammals swimming and spraying their mists into the air.

Homes are being evacuated in small lakeside communities near Prince George as firefighters battle a wildfire.

The evacuation order covers about 80 people living on Norman Lake, Little Bobtail Lake and Naltesby Lake, while residents to the north and west are under an evacuation alert.

The wildfire is burning 50 km southwest of Prince George and was last estimated to cover 2,500 hectares. As of Sunday night, 26 firefighters were trying to bring it under control with the help of two helicopters, and five pieces of heavy equipment, but more than 100 additional staff have been called in to assist.

Smoke from the fire can be seen from Highway 16 and nearby communities.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Jillian Kelsh of the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch said the evacuations are from a number of permanent and seasonal homes. She added that the fire was about 20 hectares in size when it was first spotted Saturday but quickly spread.

The forecast for the Prince George area this week calls for sunny skies and temperatures as high as 24 degrees through to Sunday. Winds are expected to gust at up to 20 km/h on Monday and Tuesday.

The dramatic scene unfolding in front of the Brookshire's supermarket in Granbury on Sunday is evidence of the power of water.

A large chunk of the parking lot along Morgan Street was washed away by flooding, leaving a deep, gaping hole in the pavement estimated at 40 feet across.

A few minutes earlier someone had launched a firework at the animal, sending it running along the opposite bank.

Officials have yet to confirm the carcass is that of a killer whale

The carcass of what appears to be a dead killer whale has washed up in Burrard Inlet next to downtown Vancouver.

Officials have yet to confirm the species of the whale, but Biggs killer whales, also known as transients, have been spotted in recent months heading through the busy harbour on their way to nearby Indian Arm, where they are known to prey on seals.

Snow, flooding and powerful tornadoes have ripped through many central US states, emergency officials said. The most affected were Texas and South Dakota where dozens of people have been injured and many houses were left in ruins.

The storm hit eastern Van Zandt County and the town of Van in northeast Texas on Sunday, the Van Zandt County fire marshal and emergency management coordinator Chuck Allen said. At least 26 people have been taken to hospital with injuries.

About 30 percent of Van, a town with 2,500 people, was damaged.

"Damages range from completely destroyed homes, damaged homes, to trees and power lines down," Allen said, adding that utility companies are now restoring "vital infrastructures." Also the American Red Cross is to open a shelter at First Baptist Church in Van, Allen said.

At least six people have been pulled out of homes by rescue helicopters in Denton County thunderstorms brought heavy rains in the area, officials said.

Central Iowa was hit hard by severe storms and tornadoes on Sunday, May 10, 2015. In Lake City, the roof of Southern Calhoun High School was ripped off while 100 people were inside for an awards ceremony. According to a report in the Des Moines Register, the school's girl's basketball coach says they received the warning and got everyone into the school's basement and locker room area just two minutes before the twister hit.

The exact moment was caught on video from only a few blocks away. Luckily, no one was hurt. Classes at the school were canceled for Monday, May 11.

There were nine reports of tornadoes in North Central Iowa. Survey teams from the National Weather Service will assess the damage to determine whether damage reported in Calhoun, Carroll, and Pocahontas Counties was caused by tornadoes or straight-line winds.

A little before noon Sunday, several diners at the new My Brothers Workshop Café and Bakery on Back Street almost leapt from their chairs and charged into the adjacent parking lot to see why some folks were gazing up in the sky.

Turns out it wasn't the end of the world, as someone had suggested. It was a solar halo surrounding the sun, as the name implies; and it seemed to absorb the whole sky.

According to Wikipedia: A halo, also known as a nimbus, is produced by light interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, resulting in a wide variety of colored or white rings, arcs and spots in the sky."

Closer to home, University of the Virgin Islands physics professor David Smith shared a professional view on the phenomenon.

"Ice crystals in the upper atmosphere create this halo, like little rainbows," he said. "It's produced by light interacting with the ice crystals."

Smith said the phenomenon isn't all that rare further north.

"It's not as common in the tropics, since there are fewer ice crystals in the upper atmosphere," he said.
