'Central Banks' Coordinated Move Has Solved Nothing'
Global stock markets on Wednesday were euphoric after the major central
banks around the world made it easier for banks to access dollars. But
the euro-zone debt crisis rages on nonetheless. At the most, say German
commentators, Wednesday's move merely buys some time -- but not much.

RUSSIAN ELECTION

The Kremlin's Dangerous Flirtation with Nationalism
Ahead of Russia's parliamentary elections on Sunday, the pro-Kremlin
parties are using nationalist rhetoric in a bid to exploit growing
right-wing sentiment in the country. But it's a dangerous game. If the
far right gets stronger, it could pose a threat to Vladimir Putin.

THE REPUBLICANS' FARCICAL CANDIDATES

A Club of Liars, Demagogues and Ignoramuses
The US Republican race is dominated by ignorance, lies and scandals. The
current crop of candidates have shown such a basic lack of knowledge

BURMA AWAKENS

Newfound Freedoms Raise Hopes at Home and Abroad*
For years, Burma's ruling junta has violently crushed its pro-democracy
opponents. But now the pariah state is releasing political prisoners,
tolerating open dissent and granting new freedoms to opposition
politicians and foreign investors. Is this merely a tactical maneuver or
a sign of genuine change?
