Tanzania: Increasing hostility towards free speech
ARTICLE 19 is concerned about bans on two newspapers as a crackdown on press freedom intensifies. Publication of the Mwananchi and Mtanzania newspapers has been suspended for 14 days and 90 days respectively. These bans follow a series of attacks against journalists in the country.

Vietnam: Human rights activist must be released immediately
Le Quoc Quan was sentenced to 30 months in prison and ordered to pay a 59,000 USD fine. Quan, who exposes human rights violations on his blog, is the latest victim of a wider government crackdown on bloggers, citizen journalists, and pro-democracy activists in Vietnam. Approximately 46 bloggers have been detained in 2013 alone, a figure that already exceeds that of 2012.

Draft Law on Access to Information (Draft Law) to full compliance with international standards in this area.
ARTICLE 19 welcomes the efforts of the Moroccan Government to draft this important piece of legislation over the last several months. We also appreciate an opportunity to contribute to this process. If adopted, Morocco would join a growing community of countries around the world that adopt a dedicated freedom of information legislation.
