1. Limor Livnat Says Barak Does not Want Jews in Hevron
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu Livnat Says Barak Does not Want Jews in Hevron

Barak does not want Jews in Hevron nor in Judea and Samaria, Likud Minister Limor Livnat charged Tuesday morning after his refusal to stop the scheduled expulsion of 15 Jewish families from their newly-purchased home.

She said that Barak would not have opposed Arabs moving into a house if they had bought it and that his policies do not allow Jews to do so. She reminded listeners on Voice of Israel government radio that the Jewish community has thrived in Hevron for centuries and that even David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister and an avowed leftist, realized that Hevron is the “city of our forefathers” and considered it a sister city of Jerusalem.

The Civil Lands Administration, part of the IDF and subject to orders by Barak, has ordered police to act by 3 p.m. Tuesday to force 15 families out of their homes, which the IDF has acknowledged was legally purchased last week.

The building, dubbed the "Machpelah House,” is located across the street from the Cave of the Patriarchs, known as the “Machpelah” Cave in Hebrew, referring to the twin caves that the forefather Avraham purchased in Hevron from local Arabs.

Barak reportedly has rejected a request by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to delay the expulsion until all legal appeals are processed.

Officially, no Jews can move into any house in Judea and Samaria without the approval of Barak, but the rule is almost never applied. There are no restrictions against Arabs.

Livnat is a veteran Likud Knesset Member who refused to jump ship and join the pro-Gush Katif expulsion party formed by then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon seven years ago.

2. Minister Katz in Machpela House: Barak Can't Decide Alone
by Gil Ronen Minister Katz in Hevron: Barak Can't Decide Alone

Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz (Likud) visited the Machpelah House in Hevron Tuesday morning and said that he is convinced Jews will continue to live in it.

"Had someone said that the purchase was illegal, that would have been a different situation," he said. "There is no extraordinary security situation here that forces the eviction. As long as everything was done legally, an Israeli government headed by Likud has to encourage settlement."

Katz said, "The decision about a step like that has to be a government decision, not one made by one ministry," he stressed – and promised he would raise the matter with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and demand yet again to cancel the eviction.

The minister also said that he intends to speed up the paving of the access road to the Cave of Machpelah (Cave of the Patriarchs). "This is our expression of support for the settlers of Hevron," he said.

3. Israeli-US Air, Naval Forces Train for Energy War
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu Israeli-US Air, Naval Forces Train for Energy War

Israeli, Greek and U.S. forces are in the midst of a drill in preparation for a possible war over Israel’s huge off-shore gas discoveries, which also may contain commercializable oil. Lebanon and Hizbullah have claimed the fields are in Lebanese territory and that they will "defend" the area against drilling by Israel.

The week-long drill is simulating air-to-air combat and anti-submarine warfare and is taking place off the coast of Turkey, possibly signaling it not to interfere with Israeli energy operations in the Mediterranean Sea. The “enemy” forces will be similar to those of the Turkish air force, according to the Defencenet.gr website.

Joint exercises also will take place off the coast of Cyprus and at the port in Haifa, with the participation of the famed U.S. Sixth Fleet.

The United States and Israel also are preparing for a massive “Austere Challenge” exercise this summer involving thousands of soldiers from both countries.

Last week, a one-day drill included Israeli soldiers operating the Arrow, the Patriot, Hawk, Stinger, and Iron Dome batteries defense systems, according to DefenseProfessionals.com.

"The ability of the formation to bring together all the defense systems is amazing", said U.S. Army Col. Stephen Richmond, head of the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command. “I'm very impressed with the capabilities presented here,” he was quoted as saying.

Russia is keeping a wary eye on the American-Israeli exercises and is staging its own war drill in a Syrian port, according to DEBKAfile. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned this week against a pre-emptive strike, which he said would violate international law.

A Russian guided missile destroyer reportedly sailed to the Syrian port of Tartus for an exercise with what DEBKAfile said is three-fold message for the United States that Moscow is supplying Syrian President Bashar Assad with defense systems, that the Russian and Iranian support of Assad will continue and that the deployment of the warship illustrates Moscow’s ability for a rapid response to foreign maneuvers.

4. Israel Estimates 'Only' 300 Deaths in 3-Week War
by Elad Benari Israel Estimates 'Only' 300 Deaths in 3-Week War

The heads of Israel’s defense system estimate that if Israel is targeted by missiles from neighboring countries during a theoretical war in 2012, 300 people will be killed in a three week period, according to a Channel 10 News report on Monday.

The report said that the ministers in the Israeli Security Cabinet were given this estimate during a briefing that was held on Sunday. Previous assessments talked about tens of thousands of casualties on the Israeli side.

According to the report, the briefing dealt with the most extreme scenario and referred to a war that may take place in 2012, before the Iron Dome anti-missile system is fully deployed. The ministers were reportedly informed that in three weeks of constant war, thousands of rockets would land in Israel, mostly from Lebanon and Syria and some from Gaza.

The ministers were told during the briefing that missiles from Iran may land in Israel as well, but that Iran’s ability in terms of conventional missiles is not great.

The most extreme estimate, according to the Channel 10 report, is that in these three weeks less than 300 Israelis will be killed. The number is high but lower than what was said in the past, the report noted. Until now, the estimates ranged between an existential threat to Israel and anywhere from 500 to 50,000 deaths.

In comparison, noted Channel 10, before the first Gulf War in 1991, defense officials estimated that then-Iraqi president Saddam Hussein will try to launch 40 missiles at Israel and that there would be 120 fatalities. Hussein ended up firing 42 missiles at Israel and there was one fatality.

5. Report: Obama Blaming Israel for Rising Fuel Prices
by Elad Benari Report: Obama Blaming Israel for Fuel Prices

The Obama administration is blaming Israel for the recent rise in global crude oil prices, according to a Sunday report in The World Tribune. The rise in fuel prices is deemed as harming the U.S. economy and has also hurt Obama in the polls as he seeks re-election in November.

The report cited a leading U.S. analyst, Robert Satloff, who returned from talks with Israeli officials.

Satloff, executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said, according to The World Tribune, that the Israeli leadership saw Washington as attributing the higher gas prices to “Israel’s posturing” on Iran.

“They think the Iranians should be held responsible for the higher gasoline prices,” Satloff was quoted as having said.

He added that the officials told him the Obama administration was staging a campaign to undermine Israel.

“I cannot underscore how deep and visceral the [Israeli] comments of the leaking that came out of Washington were,” Satloff said, noting Israel is alarmed by what officials determined were leaks by the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama of purported Israeli preparations to attack Iran.

The Israeli concerns come in the wake of a report in Foreign Policy magazine last week, according to which Israel has purchased an airfield in Azerbaijan on Iran's northern border, prompting the United States to watch very closely.

Journalist Mark Perry wrote that the Obama administration is monitoring Israel's relations with Azerbaijan, particularly its military ties.

The Americans believe Israel may use the site as a springboard for an attack on Iran's nuclear plants, or as a landing and refueling spot following one. The site could also be used for aircraft needed for search, rescue and recovery in the wake of an attack.

“We're watching what Israel is doing in Azerbaijan. And we're not happy about it,” an official told the Foreign Policy writer.

Azeri president Ilham Aliyev later dismissed the speculation and said, “Azerbaijan's territory will never be used to launch an attack against its neighbor, Iran.”

6. New Arab Book Furthering Anti-Semitic Blood Libels
by Rachel Hirshfeld New Arab Book Furthering Anti-Semitic Blood Libels

A new book, entitled “Jewish Hostility Towards Christ and Christians” and written in Arabic by Assad Azzouni, has been gaining much Jordanian media publicity, the Elder of Ziyon blog reported, translating Arabic sources.

According to these articles, the book accuses the Jews of trying to destroy Christianity and convert all Christians to Judaism. It alleges that the Talmud is dedicated to starting wars, and writes of the authenticity of the anti-Semitic Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

The reports however, do not even “show the slightest bit of skepticism about Azzouni's claims,” notes the popular blog.

Furthermore, Azzouni published an article in Al Watan Voice furthering the age-old anti-Semitic blood libel, calling on his readers “not [to] forget the [Jewish] need to kill Christian children” and “knead their blood in a dough on their [Passover] festival.”

He continues to profess that the Talmud says that if Christian blood is not available, Muslim blood is acceptable because many Christians converted to Islam.

“No comments on the article; no one protesting this throwback to the anti-semitism of the Middle Ages in Europe. It is simply accepted as a fact in the Arab world,” Elder explains.

“In English, they will stress how much they love Jews but in mainstream Arabic media opinions like these are accepted wholeheartedly.”

7. Arab Lecturer: Moses Led Muslims out of Egypt
by Rachel Hirshfeld Arab Lecturer: Moses Led Muslims out of Egypt

Dr. Omar Ja’ara, lecturer at Al-Najah University in Nablus specializing in Israeli affairs, said on Fatah television on February 15 that Moses led the Muslims out of Egypt and that the Exodus was the first instance of ‘Palestinian’ liberation through armed struggle, reported the Palestinian Media Watch.

“We must make clear to the world that David in the Hebrew Bible is not connected to David in the Quran,” he said. “Solomon in the Hebrew Bible is not connected to the Solomon in the Quran and neither is Saul or Joshua son of Nun.

“We have a great leader, Saul, who defeated the nation of the giants and killed Goliath. This is a Muslim victory.

“The Muslims of the Children on Israel went out of Egypt under the leadership of Moses and unfortunately, many researchers deny the Exodus of these oppressed people who were liberated by a great leader like Moses the Muslim, the believing leader, the great Muslim, who was succeeded by Saul, the leader of these Muslims in liberating Palestine,” Ja’ara claimed.

“This was the first Palestinian liberation through armed struggle to liberate Palestine from the nation of giants led by Goliath,” he added. “This is our logic and this is our culture. “

8. Online Warning of Al Qaeda Return to New York
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu Online Warning of Al Qaeda Return to New York

U.S. authorities are investigating the source of an online poster warning that the Al Qaeda terrorist organization wants to stage a repeat “performance” in New York City, where its terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people in aerial attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The graphic poster, apparently designed by an amateur, includes the words “Al Qaeda” and “Coming Soon Again in New York.” whose skyline at sunset is shown in the background.

The poster also was seen on various Arabic language websites and extremist forums, but at least five pro-jihad websites have been hacked, the Washington Post reported.

New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said the source of the posting was overseas and that police are investigating. FBI spokesman J. Peter Donald issued a statement saying, “The FBI takes all threats seriously and at his time there is no specific or credible threat to New York. There is no specific or credible threat to New York.”

President Barack Obama has declared open war on Al Qaeda, and American forces killed its leader, Osama bin Laden, last year in Pakistan. President Obama has declared that it is only a matter of time before Al Qaeda is wiped out, but the international terrorist network recently has staged several attacks.

Ten of its senior terrorists are operating in Iran, where they once were in jail but since have been allowed to operate in the country, which provides a safe haven for them.
